It is unknown what impact the outcry of disgust appearing on social media had on the decision by the “so-called” FIFA normalization committee to fire Fenwick as Trinidad and Tobago head coach, which according to any rational calculation is clearly the right outcome.
In my view, the fiasco exemplified by the performance of this team under the dismissed coach is the mere tip of an iceberg that runs the gamut of our national predicament as an “independent” country.
That even a corrupt organization like FIFA can be dictating to us is itself evidence of the diminished conception of independence we have operationalized as a continuing reality of our existence. The power that was gifted to our elites in the transactions at Marlborough House has never gotten down to the level of the masses. These elites have exploited the issue of race to disguise their neo-colonialists compromises.
It’s great to see that local coach, Angus Eve, has been appointed as new interim head coach. It should be the rule rather than the exception to hire and retain our own people to foster national pride and continuity in all of our strategic efforts.
